RESALE STORE REFERRALS

Caritas distributed through our three resale store locations (Waco, Bellmead and West) an estimated $63,316 worth of clothing and household items to 4,344 families.  Families received these items free of charge. Also, through the Caritas Pantry and Warehouse Gifts-in-Kind Programs, an estimated $773, 590 of non-food, household items were distributed to individuals.

      Caritas’ Gift-In-Kind (GIK)Program

In June of 2004, Caritas began a partnership with the Waco Walmart Return Center and their vendors/suppliers to distribute some of the returned merchandise to nonprofit social service agencies/organizations. In 2007, the GIK Program  received 3,771,295 lbs. of merchandise (primarily paper products, personal hygiene items, household goods, etc.) and distributed 3,552,377 lbs. to over 200 agencies and America’s Second Harvest Food Banks (TX,OK, Missouri), as well as a Mexican National Food Bank in Acuna, Mexico.

      Caritas’ Food Rescue Program

      In 2007, Caritas rescued 1,730,037 lbs. of food from about 75 different donors each month, and    distributed (free of charge) about 1,630,371 lbs. of food to 80 different agencies, churches, organizations, and to the Caritas Food Pantry.

      Caritas Volunteer Program

      In this same period, over 800 individual volunteers and groups of volunteers gave 38,122 hrs. of time to Caritas. This resulted in savings to Caritas of $223,014, when calculated at the minimum wage.
