Tenth ‘Greater Bohemian Open’ Again a Great Success
The 10th Annual Greater Bohemian Open (GBO) benefiting Caritas was held at battle Alake Golf Course on Saturday, July 28th, and was a great success in terms of ‘funraising’ (A great time was had by all), and fundraising (Raising about $14,000 for the mission of Caritas, almost doubling the previous year). This year, the major sponsors of the ‘not-your-run-of-the-mill, usual, everyday charity golf tournament’, included Oldies 95, the Oldies Station, and especially Max and Tamme, American Classifieds, Stylecraft Builders, Inc., and Golf ETC. of Waco. The course was full to overflowing with a total of 35 teams participating, including Gold Teams from Central Freight, Equipment Depot, Frontier Bolt, Northwest Optimist Club (2 Gold Teams), Pickup Outfitters, Volvo and Mack Trucks, The Country Boys, and Rosebud Feed and Grain. Dozens of other businesses, individuals, and organizations sponsored teams, provided hole sponsorships, or simple gave monetary gifts to GBO. Phil Adkins and Shipley’s Donuts provided the breakfast and great lunch, in the Bohemian Style, was provided by that able group of chef’s led by Chef Ron Knowles.
Again this year the GBO Steering Committee, chaired by David Hegar, which included Kristen Zander, Candy Teats, James Goldsmith, and Trey Miller, planned and executed a great event. Kenneth Moerbe, Executive Director of Caritas, had the pleasure of awarding the winning team, Circle V Bhare Ranch, the prizes of the 7 course Bohemian dinner (A link of sausage and a six pack), and the coveted, “not quite plaid jackets.” Unfortunately, this year the “coveted plaid jackets” seemed to have become extinct, so some regularly blazers were awarded. Story has it that these blazers were “overruns” from that other golf tournament in Augusta, Georgia. Finally, thanks to many other volunteers, including in-laws and outlaws of the Hegar Family.
Plan now to participate in next year’s GBO on July 26th, same time and same location.
