United Way Grant for 2009
The United Way of Waco/McLennan County has announced that Caritas of Waco will receive an allocation of $44,500 in 2009 for use to help fund the “shared maintenance fee” which is used to secure food from Capital Area food Ban (CAFB) in Austin, as well as provide for the emergency purchase of food from other sources, such as wholesale grocery firms or other food brokers. This was an increase of $10,000 over the 2008 allocation amount.
All food received from CAFB has been donated at a national or local level, but because there are costs related to transportation, storage and distribution of food, a shared maintenance fee of $.15/lb. is charged for food received from CAFB. Currently about 20%-25% of all food distributed to clients is received from CAFB. Thank you to all of you who contributed to the United Way of Waco/McLennan County.
