Feast of Caring is SOLD OUT!! Thank you for your support.

It's time again for Caritas' annual Feast of Caring. This is the principal fundraiser for Caritas. This year's event will be held Tuesday, February 26, 2013 starting at 6 p.m. at the MCC Conference Center located at 4601 N. 19th Street.

This year's event will have a new twist. This will be the first annual "Soup Cook Off" and will feature hot, tasty soup from ten of Waco's leading restaurants. Soup has always been a symbol to Caritas of food that needy families have relied upon for basic sustenance, and that traditional symbolism continues this year as we remember those who are less fortunate.

With the addition of the "Soup Cook Off," the Feast of Caring will offer an enjoyable evening of sampling soup (and voting for your favorite) but also learning more about the work of Caritas. Plus there will be musical entertainment by the "Horton Duo" and an exciting silent auction!

The annual Food for Families food drive that was held on November 18, 2011 was a huge success. The total tonnage of food donated in McLennan County alone was over 400,000 pounds. This was about 40,000 pounds more than was donated in McLennan County in 2010.

Thank you McLennan County and the surrounding communities for your generosity and support. We look forward to even greater success in 2012. The Food for Families food drive in 2012 will be held on Friday, November 16, 2012.

Caritas of Waco is pleased to announce that it has received pledges and donations needed to meet the “challenge” requirement from the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation of Tulsa, Oklahoma, in order to receive a $100,000 grant for the agency’s construction program.

“We want to thank our community for responding in such a strong manner to our request for help with this challenge, and a special thank-you goes to Alice Starr who has served as Honorary Chair of our capital campaign committee and who appeared in our public service announcement encouraging donations to the challenge grant,” said Rabbi Gordon Fuller, Chairman of the Caritas Capital Campaign Committee. “The ‘PSA’ went a long way in helping us meet the challenge, and as a result, we will be able to secure $100,000 from the Mabee Foundation that will be applied to our building renovation costs,” added Fuller.

The project will expand the agency’s waiting room capacity, which frequently is overcrowded, and will also make the waiting area more conducive to providing educational presentations to families prior to their receiving services. The Caritas pantry will be expanded to allow storage and preparation of food orders to be conducted more efficiently; also, cooling and freezer capacity in the pantry will be expanded.
